Florida vs North Carolina: Strip Club Laws Compared
5 key differences across 9 rules — alcohol, nudity, age limits, lap dances, and more.
Local rules vary a lot — Miami is very different from a small county. Alcohol and nudity generally don't mix.
Statewide SOB law applies to most cities — 1,000-ft buffers are standard, and nudity with alcohol is banned by the ABC.
Florida — Visitor Take
Florida is one of the better states for a club night — especially Miami, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando. The scene is huge and ranges from basic to extremely upscale. The catch is that alcohol and full nudity are kept separate by most local rules, so you'll find either fully nude clubs or bikini bars with drinks. Miami has some of the flashiest clubs in the country. Tampa's Ybor City area has a well-known cluster of clubs. Age is typically 18+ or 21+ depending on the venue. Expect big crowds on weekends and high cover charges at the top spots.
North Carolina — Visitor Take
North Carolina has a statewide licensing requirement and 1,000-foot buffer zones, which pushes clubs out of residential areas. The ABC commission bans nudity in alcohol-serving venues. Charlotte and Raleigh have the most clubs. The experience is topless-only at alcohol venues or fully nude without drinks. It's a solid but not exceptional scene for the Southeast — Atlanta is nearby if you want more options.
